Clear legal communication

Communication in four languages across all our practice areas.

Multilingual legal service is more than translation. It means that the client clearly understands the facts, the legal options, the evidentiary needs, the procedural risks and the decisions they will have to make.

A lawyer and working language suited to your file

We determine the responsible lawyer and working team according to the legal field of the file, the preferred language and the scope of the engagement. Meetings, document review, legal correspondence and file updates are carried out within this plan.

  • Explaining the legal matter and material facts directly
  • Directing questions to the team responsible for the file
  • Having documents in foreign languages reviewed legally at a preliminary stage
  • Understanding critical developments clearly

Transparent information and informed decisions

Depending on the type of transaction and the stage of the file, we aim to explain the following matters in a clear and understandable way.

  • Application and litigation routes, jurisdiction and statutory time limits
  • Required documents, evidence and evidentiary needs
  • Alternative solutions, risks and costs
  • Translation, notarization, apostille and consular procedures
  • Decisions and approvals expected from the client

Legal Services in Türkiye for Cross-Border Matters

Working across distance

Follow your file in Türkiye from the country where you live.

A working arrangement specific to the file is established, taking into account the language of the meeting, the time difference, the power of attorney, document preparation and statutory time limits.

  • Meeting

We plan a meeting in your preferred language, in person, by phone or online, depending on the team’s availability.

  • Power of attorney and documents

We explain the requirements for special authority, original documents, translation, apostille and consular certification for your specific transaction.

  • File updates

We regularly report on procedural steps, interim decisions, reports, important dates and the decisions expected from the client.

Professional contacts in more than one hundred countries and coordination

Within the framework of international professional relationships and memberships developed since the 2010s, there are opportunities for communication and cooperation in more than one hundred countries. When a transaction or court representation is required in a foreign country, we coordinate file by file with independent lawyers authorized in that country. Local legal assessment and representation belong to the lawyer authorized in the country concerned.

The division of tasks, the communication arrangement, the foreign lawyer’s fee, the scope of coordination and any necessary data sharing are explained in advance.

Document and procedural preparation

Foreign documents, translation and apostille procedures.

Reviewing the legal content of a document, having it officially translated and having it certified are separate stages. A preparation plan is made according to the type of document, the country where it was issued and the official authority where it will be used.

  • Legal review

The parties, obligations, risks, notices, jurisdiction and applicable law provisions are assessed.

  • Official translation

We determine whether the transaction requires a sworn translation and, if applicable, notarial certification.

  • Document authentication

Apostille, consular certification and exemptions from legalization under international conventions are examined.

Legal review of documents, contracts and correspondence in foreign languages

Contracts, powers of attorney, company and registry documents, commercial correspondence, bank and payment records, court judgments and service documents are examined with regard to dates, parties, obligations, limits of liability, applicable law, jurisdiction and evidentiary value. For documents drawn up in more than one language, differences in meaning between the texts are assessed separately.

The distinction between a lawyer’s language review and an official translation

A lawyer’s legal review of a document in a foreign language and the official translation made by a sworn translator are different procedures. The translation, certification and document submission requirements sought by a Turkish court or official authority are determined on the basis of the specific transaction.

Review of applicable law, competent authority and time limits

In disputes with a foreign element, the applicable law, jurisdiction, service and time limits are assessed within the framework of Law No. 5718 on Private International and Procedural Law, the relevant international conventions and the connecting factors of the specific case.

Using official documents obtained from foreign countries in Türkiye

When powers of attorney, civil registry, marriage, inheritance and commercial registry documents and court judgments are to be used in Türkiye, the country where the document was issued, exemptions from certification, apostille or consular procedures and, where necessary, the Turkish translation are reviewed together.

Service of documents abroad and international judicial assistance

In international service of documents, taking of evidence and letters rogatory, the applicable Hague Conventions, bilateral agreements and the relevant procedural rules are taken into account. The effects of these procedures on the litigation schedule and statutory time limits are assessed in advance.

Using foreign court judgments and arbitral awards in Türkiye

Foreign court judgments are assessed for recognition and enforcement, and foreign arbitral awards within the framework of the applicable international conventions and the provisions of the Law on Private International and Procedural Law (MÖHUK). Some family law judgments may be subject to special administrative registration procedures.

From application to post-judgment stages

We carry out our legal working process in seven stages.

Initial contact, professional conflict check, engagement and active file management are separate stages that follow one another.

  1. We identify the communication language and the legal need

We learn your preferred language, the country where you are located, the parties, the outline of the matter and any approaching statutory time limits.

  2. We conduct a conflict of interest check

We assess whether there is any professional conflict of interest, or conflict of interest between the parties, that could prevent the firm from taking on the matter.

  3. We examine the international law and procedural dimension

We address the applicable law, the competent authority, service of documents, time limits and the conditions for using foreign documents.

  4. We receive documents through a secure channel

We determine the documents required for the file and the translation, notarization, apostille or consular procedures.

  5. We clarify the scope of services and the fees

We set out in writing the limits of the engagement, the attorney’s fee and the foreseeable expenses.

  6. We assign the responsible lawyer and the team

We plan the working team according to the legal field and language needs and, if necessary, the coordination of a local lawyer and an interpreter.

  7. We follow the file through the post-judgment stages

We follow litigation and application procedures together with the enforcement of judgments and, where necessary, collection, registration or execution processes, and we report developments to you.

The attorney’s fee, and court, enforcement, translation, notary, apostille and courier costs and, where necessary, the fees of an independent lawyer abroad, are treated as separate items.

Confidentiality and professional responsibility

Confidentiality and information security in international files.

Information and documents are handled in line with attorney professional secrecy, the protection of personal data and the principle of purpose-limited processing. If sharing with a lawyer or interpreter abroad is necessary, its legal basis, scope and appropriate security measures are assessed separately.

Do not send sensitive documents such as identity cards, passports, bank, health or extensive file records with your first inquiry. The secure method of sharing is determined after the preliminary assessment and the conflict of interest check.

An application or a meeting request alone does not mean that the matter has been accepted. Statutory time limits must be monitored by the applicant until it has been expressly agreed that the matter has been taken on.

Frequently asked questions

Your questions about international and multilingual legal services.

In which languages can I meet and receive services?

In all practice areas of our legal representation and advisory services, we offer communication in Turkish, English, German and Russian. The responsible lawyer and working team are determined according to the subject of the file and the language need.

Can I have my file followed without coming to Türkiye?

Once a duly executed power of attorney and the necessary document preparation are complete, many procedures in Türkiye can be followed remotely. Procedures that require personal attendance and needs for special authority are assessed separately in the specific file.

Can you review a contract drafted in a foreign language?

Documents in English, German and Russian can be reviewed by an appropriate responsible lawyer with regard to their legal content and risks. The sworn translation and certification required for documents to be submitted to an official authority are separate procedures.

Can a foreign court judgment be used in Türkiye?

Depending on the type of judgment and the applicable legislation, recognition, enforcement or a special administrative registration route may come into question. In particular, for foreign divorce judgments, the special registration conditions are examined separately.

Is an apostille required for every document obtained from a foreign country?

No. The nature of the document, the country where it was issued, the authority where it will be used and the applicable bilateral or multilateral conventions are decisive. Whether an apostille, consular certification or an exemption applies is examined separately.

Do you provide direct court representation in foreign countries?

Our firm provides representation and advisory services in Türkiye within the scope of Turkish law. For local representation in a foreign country, we coordinate file by file with independent lawyers authorized in that country.

What information should I share with my first inquiry?

Your name or company name, the country where you are located, your language of communication, a short summary of the matter, the opposing party and any approaching time limits are sufficient for the initial assessment. Sensitive documents should not be sent before a secure sharing channel has been determined.
