Our Areas of Legal Support
in Consumer Disputes

Consumer law governs the rights arising from goods and services acquired for purposes that are neither commercial nor professional. First, the nature of the transaction, the responsible party and the basis of the claim are determined.

Not every request for a refund or return is subject to the same rule. By distinguishing between withdrawal, defects, termination and compensation, we assess your documents and your time limits. We provide file-specific legal support to consumers as well as to sellers and suppliers.

Consumer Arbitration Committee or Consumer Court?

First it is determined whether the dispute is a consumer transaction and what outcome is sought. The monetary threshold alone does not explain the application route for every file.

2026 · MONETARY THRESHOLD

Under 186,000 TL

In consumer disputes within the monetary jurisdictional threshold, an application is made to the Consumer Arbitration Committee (tüketici hakem heyeti). The application can be made in person, by mail or through e-Devlet.

2026 · COURT ROUTE

186,000 TL and above

In disputes outside the Committee’s threshold, the consumer court route is considered. Except for statutory exceptions, mediation is required before an action is filed.

ARBITRATION COMMITTEE DECISION

Two weeks to object

An objection may be filed with the consumer court from the service of the decision. Mediation as a condition precedent to litigation is not required for this objection; enforcement does not stop automatically.

The monetary threshold applies to 2026; the year of application, the value of the claim and special jurisdiction provisions are checked. Source: Ministry of Trade (opens in a new tab) · Time limit for objection: Law No. 7499, Article 37/11 (opens in a new tab).

How We Assess Your File

  1. Transaction and claim

The contract, the capacity of the parties and the right claimed are determined.

  2. Documents and time limits

Delivery, servicing, payment and notification records are reviewed; the need for a technical examination is identified.

  3. Application and pursuit of the claim

A formal notice (ihtar), the arbitration committee, mediation, litigation or an urgent protection route is planned.

  4. Implementation of the decision

The conditions for objection and legal remedies, and the refund, replacement and enforcement stages are assessed.

What becomes clear at the end of the consultation?

The right that can be claimed, the authority to apply to, missing documents and the next steps are determined. The attorney’s fee, the scope of services and possible litigation costs are explained separately. The outcome or the end date cannot be guaranteed.

First Consultation Preparation Checklist

You can start with the documents you have. First tell us your claim, the date of the transaction and any approaching time limit.

Documents that will be useful to prepare

  • The contract, the pre-contractual information, the order, the invoice and the payment document.
  • Delivery, shipping, return and service records; warranty and technical reports.
  • Listings, advertisements and screenshots that show the date and address information.
  • Correspondence with the seller, bank or platform, and application numbers.
  • The decision of the arbitration committee or the court, and the service record.

Frequently Asked Questions About Consumer Law

Is every purchase a consumer transaction?

No. The purpose of acquisition and the capacity of the parties matter. Commercial purchases between merchants and sales between persons who are not acting for a commercial purpose may be subject to different provisions.

Do I have to accept repair first for a defective product?

There is no obligation to repair first in every case. The statutory remedies of the consumer’s choice, the nature of the goods, the conditions of feasibility and disproportionality, and the right previously exercised are assessed together.

If fourteen days have passed, do all my rights end?

No. The right of withdrawal in a distance contract and the rights arising from defective goods or services are different. The start of the period and the exceptions are examined according to the legal basis of the claim.

Can I return a defect-free product I bought at a store?

There is no right to return without giving a reason in every in-store purchase. The seller’s commitment, the contract and whether the product is defective are assessed separately.

Can I apply to the arbitration committee without an attorney?

Yes. You can make the application yourself or through your attorney. The application route, the claim, the correct opposing party and the documents must be determined completely.

Does an objection to an arbitration committee decision stop enforcement?

It does not stop it automatically. The objection and, if necessary, a request for an interim stay of enforcement are assessed separately. The document showing the date of service is important.

Does a complaint to the Presidential Communication Center (CİMER) or an administrative authority secure a refund?

Administrative supervision and a personal claim for a refund or compensation are different processes. An administrative complaint does not automatically replace an application to the arbitration committee or the court.

Are consultation and follow-up possible from abroad?

Your file connected with Türkiye can be assessed online. Representation, the applicable law, translation, service of documents and the country in which the decision will be enforced are examined separately.
