Our Approach to This Procedure
Whether the person was registered before, and the birth and citizenship documents, are investigated. The route to follow at the population directorate or the diplomatic mission and the documents to be completed are determined.
Birth Notification, Late Registration and Unregistered Population (Saklı Nüfus) Procedures
Failure to notify a birth on time, a person never having been entered in the family register, or a birth abroad not having been entered in the Turkish civil registry records give rise to different application routes. Not all of these procedures are the subject of a lawsuit; depending on the official birth certificate, the age and the situation of the applicant, an administrative process can be carried out before the population directorate, the governor’s office, the district governor’s office or a diplomatic mission.
The principal topics:
- Registration in the civil registry of a birth that took place in Türkiye
- Birth notification made after the deadline
- Births without an official birth certificate
- Late registration of a child older than six
- Persons under eighteen who have not been entered in the family register
- Registration of a past birth event of an adult
- Allegations of unregistered persons (saklı nüfus) and the administrative investigation process
- Entry in the Turkish civil registry of a child born abroad
- Apostille or certification and translation of a foreign birth certificate
- Procedures for name, surname, citizenship and family ties after the birth record
Birth registration and the acquisition of Turkish citizenship are not the same legal subject. Whether a person has acquired Turkish citizenship through parentage, place of birth or another reason is assessed separately under the provisions of citizenship law.
Time limit for birth notification
The birth of a child born alive must be notified to the population directorate within thirty days in Türkiye and to the diplomatic mission within sixty days abroad. In case of delay, the registration and examination route to follow is determined separately. A person to be registered for the first time and a person left out of the record in the old civil registry writing are not in the same application category.
Preparing for the Consultation and Scope of Services
Prepare the record you believe is wrong or inconsistent, the official documents on which that record is based and, if there is one, the rejection letter. Also state the dates of any notifications and procedures. Do not share unnecessary personal data before it has been assessed which documents the file actually requires.
The scope of the administrative application, lawsuit, appeal and post-decision procedures, as well as the attorney’s fee and other expenses, are agreed separately. The outcome and the end date are not guaranteed.
