It All Began in Class 1/B: Attorney Umut Güneş’s 34-Year Legal Journey

1992: Where It All Began

September 1992. Class 1/B at Ankara University Faculty of Law... The beginning of our Founding Attorney Umut Güneş’s long-standing professional relationship with the law traces back to this classroom and to that year’s benches at the faculty.

The concepts encountered in the first days at university, the effort to learn how to think legally, the discussions held in the lecture halls and the hours spent with books formed the first steps not only of an undergraduate education but also of a perspective carried into the professional life that followed.

Graduation in 1996, Starting the Legal Profession in 1998

Attorney Umut Güneş studied at Ankara University Faculty of Law between 1992 and 1996 and graduated in 1996. He completed his attorney traineeship in 1997 and entered the profession on March 26, 1998, when he obtained his license to practice law.

These dates refer to different periods: 1992 marks the start of legal education, 1996 graduation, 1997 the traineeship, and 1998 the official start of the legal profession. The 34 years we refer to as of 2026 is the time elapsed since the start of his legal education, not since his law license.

1999: The Foundation of the Law Firm Established in Kemer

On March 18, 1999, Güneş & Güneş Law Firm was established in Kemer, a district of Antalya. The discipline of learning that began at law school gradually developed into an institutional approach to work that examines case files in detail, discusses legal possibilities together and also follows up on implementation after a decision is made.

In the firm’s professional approach, understanding the file, building the defense or litigation strategy and following the process through to its final stage are regarded as complementary responsibilities.

The Principle That Has Not Changed Since Class 1/B: Continuing to Learn

What brings the starting point back to mind after 34 years is not only the walls of the faculty building or the benches of the classroom. Researching anew, thinking anew, weighing different views and renewing oneself along with the development of the law with every new file are also part of this journey.

The idea that sums up our Founding Attorney’s professional outlook is that the knowledge and experience gained over the years are not a completed destination but a continually growing responsibility.

Current photographs showing the main building of Ankara University Faculty of Law, its entrance façade and Class 1/B once again recall today the places of the period of study that began in 1992. The benches of that classroom and the doors of the faculty carry the memory of the first bond formed with the law.
