Request a Consultation for Civil Registry Matters

Our Approach to This Procedure

The permission and registry correction stages are planned separately. The necessary official documents, the effect of procedures abroad and the updating of identity documents are assessed in confidence.

Permission for Gender Change and Correction of the Civil Registry

The gender change process is a two-stage legal process directly connected with personal status and private life, within the scope of Article 40 of the Turkish Civil Code. In the first stage, the court is asked for permission for the medical intervention; after permission, once the medical and official conditions required by the law have been met, correction of the entry in the civil registry is requested.

In this context:

  • Assessment of the application conditions
  • The official health board process
  • The request for permission for gender change
  • Documenting the medical process after the permission decision
  • Correction of the gender field in the civil registry record
  • Identity document procedures, including first name and photograph
  • Aligning the passport, diploma, bank and other records
  • Protection of private life and sensitive personal data
  • Assessment in Türkiye of medical procedures carried out, or decisions obtained, abroad

are addressed. The current legal position formed by Constitutional Court decisions, the legislation at the date of application and the medical documents are assessed together. Current norm review decisions are taken into account, including the annulment of the condition of “permanent loss of reproductive capacity.”

Preparing for the Consultation and Scope of Services

Prepare the record you believe is wrong or inconsistent, the official documents on which that record is based and, if there is one, the rejection letter. Also state the dates of any notifications and procedures. Do not share unnecessary personal data before it has been assessed which documents the file actually requires.

The scope of the administrative application, lawsuit, appeal and post-decision procedures, as well as the attorney’s fee and other expenses, are agreed separately. The outcome and the end date are not guaranteed.
