Antalya Genç Hukukçular Topluluğu Visited the Güneş & Güneş Law Firm as Part of “Lawyers at Work”

Law Students Saw Legal Practice at First Hand

On 28 March 2024, law students who are members of Antalya Genç Hukukçular Topluluğu (AGH – Antalya Young Lawyers Society) visited the Güneş & Güneş Law Firm as part of the “Lawyers at Work” event. During the talk held at the office, the students had the opportunity to put their questions on the day-to-day practice of the legal profession directly.

Sharing the experience he has gained in the legal profession since 1998, founding attorney Umut Güneş explained that being a lawyer is not merely a matter of knowing the law, but requires research, care, responsibility and a commitment to continuous learning.

“You Can Become a Good Lawyer – But You Must Work Hard”

Emphasising in his conversation with the students that professional success rests on a disciplined work ethic, Attorney Umut Güneş stated that a high-quality legal career develops not through talent alone but through effort and dedication sustained over many years.

Güneş advised the young people to develop their reading, research, expression and advocacy skills while still students, and to keep learning throughout their professional lives.

Advocacy Is a Profession of Empathy, Courage and Struggle

Noting that advocacy requires understanding people and standing firmly beside those who seek their rights, Güneş highlighted empathy, professional solidarity and the responsibility of defending the rights of others.

Professional independence and the defence of rights

The talk underlined that critical thinking, professional courage and a human rights–conscious approach to advocacy must be developed alongside legal knowledge.

He stated that being able to take an independent and, where necessary, dissenting stance against unlawfulness is part of the courage and resolve that lie at the heart of the legal profession.

Keeping Passion, Determination and Solidarity Alive

Describing the profession not merely as a field of work but as a responsibility in which knowledge and practice constantly develop, Güneş said that young lawyers should remain passionately committed to their profession.

Stressing that future lawyers growing up in solidarity with one another will strengthen high-quality advocacy and legal culture, he conveyed his wishes for the students’ success in their education and careers.

A Talk That Continued with Questions, and a Presentation of Flowers

As the talk continued, the students asked questions about legal education, choosing a profession, the working environment and a career as a lawyer. Attorney Umut Güneş answered their questions with examples from his professional life.

At the end of the event, the students presented flowers, thanking him for his kind hospitality and the experiences shared.
